Kay and Ray

November 30, 1968
First Loves, Lost Loves, Found Loves

There is something to be said about “first loves.” Ray and I feel we are fortunate to have found one another again as we both had “second loves” (in my case more than 2nd!). I guess I was searching for that same feeling I had with my first love, Ray.

Ray and I met the summer of my 9th grade. He graduated from Ribault in 1964 and joined the Army Reserve and then college. We dated on and off and then more on and then down the wedding aisle November 30, 1968. I still have the letters he sent from Boot Camp and college! AND the wedding photos and the wedding gown; thanks to my mother.

Honeymoon? We found our way to Chattanooga, Tennessee. Unfortunately for Ray, I was set on finding a room with a color TV!  ELVIS was going to be on COLOR TV!! We laugh about it every time we pass through Tennessee.

We divorced in 1971. As our 25th Class Reunion was approaching, Ray asked my sister if she thought I would mind if he came to the reunion. He did—the sparks flew and when we danced, it was as if we had been dancing together the entire 21 years we were apart. We remarried on the same date, November 30th in 2000. We are still in the “dance” of life and believe we were meant to be together.

I believe God has a plan for all of us, and it wasn’t in His plan for me to have children, but he did bless me with two stepdaughters, one who gave me four wonderful grandchildren and just recently a great grandson!

I am also blessed with having my great niece, Rachael, in my life. Her mother died when she was three. Ray and I are raising her now. She is a wonderful 16 yr. old . So think about me as I go down the road of college hunting this year! Not fun trying to remember all this stuff at 60!

Ray has one son, Tyler, who lives in Prague, Czech Republic with his wife and two dogs. He owns a “Ghost Tour” company. If you are ever in Prague, please look him up! He would love to chat with an American!

I am including photos from our “first” wedding, as I thought some of you would like seeing our Ribault wedding party. The girls: Theresa (Terri) Dees (my deceased sister), 1968; Susan Chambers, 1967; Linda Hall, 1967; Vicki Pearson, 1967 and my little niece, Dana Paschal, flower girl. The guys: Jay McGee, 1970 (Ray’s deceased brother); Skip Lewis, 1967; Tommy Glenn, 1964; LaRue Williams, 1964.

So many memories! So much fun! Thanks for this opportunity to share our love story.

Happy Valentine’s wishes for all!
