Interesting Chocolate Facts
-Americans eat about 10 pounds of chocolate a year per capita. The Swiss eat an average of 22 pounds per year.
-In Hershey, Pennsylvania, the streetlights along "Chocolate Avenue" are in the shape of Hershey Kisses.
-A 1.5 oz. milk chocolate bar has only 220 calories. A 1.75 oz. serving of potato chips has 230 calories.
-Casanova, fond of chocolate's divine properties, considered it an elixir of love.
-The Baby Ruth candy bar was created in 1920 and named after the daughter of President Cleveland.
-Dark chocolate, like red wine, contains flavonoid phenolic’s which are known to reduce the risk of heart attack.
-Cocoa butter is widely used in the production of cosmetic moisturizers.
-1.4 ounces of chocolate has about the same amount of caffeine as a cup of decaffeinated coffee.
-M&M's were first created for the U.S. military because the candy coated shell didn't melt.
-When Cortez landed in Mexico, he discovered that the natives used cocoa beans for money. Interesting, since they had all of that gold!
